Vince Gill is paying homage to a couple of country legends with his next album. The country star has teamed up with steel guitarist Paul Franklin on Bakersfield, a ten-track tribute disc honoring Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, and their backing bands.
Vince says he really enjoyed making the album, calling it fun to sing a whole record of "the greatest songs ever." Gill adds that he's really proud of the way he uses his vocals to salute the country legends. He explains that he adapted Owens and Haggard's vocal style, so listeners won't find much vibrato in his voice on the Owens songs, and with the Haggard tracks it will "come down to a low note and that quiver."
Tracks on Bakersfield include Buck's hits "Foolin' Round" and "Nobody's Fool But Yours," along with Haggard's "Branded Man" and "The Fightin' Side Of Me." Haggard is even endorsing the album. He writes in the liner notes that he can "only give the entire project a big ole double, thumbs up!" Gill and Franklin's Bakersfield will be in stores on June 30th.
