Bexar Deputy Wounded in Shootout

A Bexar County Sheriffs Deputy as wounded today in a shootout with a felony suspect at a northwest side apartment, officials tell 1200 WOAI news.

Deputies arrived at the Fredericksburg Place Apartments in the 3400 block of Fredericksburg Road, on information that 21 year old Rudy Gonzalez was at the location.

When deputies approached Gonzalez, he allegedly attempted to ram deputies with his Jeep.

A deputy opened fire, striking Gonzalez in the shoulder.

He then stopped his vehicle and was arrested.

While Gonzalez was being booked, Deputy Gus Trevino, who was working off duty security at the complex, said he had been shot.

It seems the wounded deputy was hit by a fragment or a bullet ricochet.

He is being treated at University Hospital.

Gonzalez is facing charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, as well as possession of a controlled substance.
