Dewhurst to Hannity: Move to Texas

Dewhurst to Hannity: Move to Texas

In a letter addressed to a 'soon to be former New Yorker,' Texas Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst is extending an invitation to the conservative radio and TV talk show host Sean Hannity to ditch the Big Apple and move to Texas.

Hannity was responding to comments made by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday, in which he said 'extreme conservatives have no place in New York.'

"I was born and raised in New York," Hannity said.  "I want you to know that I can't wait to get out of here.  I really can't.  I don't want to pay their 10% state tax any more.  I live in the second highest property taxes county in the entire country in Nassau County.  I can't wait to sell my house to somebody who wants it.  I can't wait to pay no state income tax down in Florida or Texas.  I haven't decided yet, but I'm leaning Florida because I like the water and I like to fish."

Dewhurst wants to tip the balance in favor of Texas, telling Hannity that, "here in Texas, you will find yourself surrounded by hard working people who share your love of liberty, your embrace of the Second Amendment, and your belief in the sanctity of life," Dewhurst writes.

Conservative talk show host Glenn Beck has already left New York and now lives in Southlake, near Ft. Worth, although his company is still headquartered in New York.  Rush Limbaugh left New York in the nineties and now lives in Palm Beach Florida.

"While I think the move to Texas would be great for you, I sincerely believe you would make the Texas economy even better," Dewhurst wrote.  "Whether that's by creating more jobs for our vibrant broadcasting industry or the positive impact you'd have by sharing your firsthand impressions of the economic freedom we enjoy here every day, Hannity in Texas is a match made in heaven.

Dewhurst even appealed to Sean Hannity, the proud second generation Irishman, by pointing that the annual St. Patrick's Day celebration in Shamrock, in the Panhandle, is among the largest in the country.
