Northside ISD Sets May Bond Vote

Voters in the Northside ISD, the largest school district in Bexar County and the fourth largest in the state, will decide in May whether to approve a $648 million bond package, 1200 WOAI news reports.

The bond issue will pay for six new schools, including a new high school in the Kallison Ranch area of far west Bexar County off FM-471.

The school board voted unanimously last night to place the bond package on the May 10th municipal election ballot.

This is the first bond issue in the fast growing district since 2010.

55% of the money would go to improving existing schools, including building new 'bullet resistant security lobbies' on sixty elementary buildings. The money will also pay for new school busses, and for badly needed mechanical and technological improvements to existing buildings, including air conditioning all school locker rooms.

The bond package is the product of lengthy discussion by the Citizens Bond Committee, composed of parents, senior citizens, students, business representatives, taxpayers, teachers, and district staffers.
