A San Antonio Police Officer is hospitalized after he was shot in the head by a robbery suspect during a high speed chase through Bexar and Atascosa Counties, officials tell 1200 WOAI news.
UPDATE: Both suspects have now been apprehended by police in a rural area off HIghway 181 near the Bexar/Asascosa County line.
Police say it started about might with a robbery at a convenience store on the city's north side.
About two hours later, officers spotted the vehicle that was announced over the police radio as the getaway car on Southeast Military.
Officer began pursuing the vehicle, which turned onto I-37 south toward Pleasanton.
In rural Atascosa County, a suspect in the vehicle began firing out the window of the speeding car at the officers pursuing him, police said.
The police officer was hit by one of the bullets and his patrol car spun off the road. He was rushed to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition.
The suspects continued firing at state troopers, and the search continued.
Police about 6:30 this morning were searching for the suspects with police dogs off of Highway 181 in far south Bexar County and Atascosa County. The search, which involved helicopers and armies of police officers, was centered hear Highway 181 and FM 224.
