Bergdahl's Family Comments on His Arrival in San Antonio

The family of Bowe Bergdahl released a statement today, hours after the Army sergeant arrived in San Antonio to begin 'Phase III Reintegration' at San Antonio Military Medical Center, 1200 WOAI news reports.

"While the Bergdahls are overjoyed that their son has returned to the United States, Mr. and Mrs. Bergdahl don't intend to make any travel plans public," the family said in a statement released by the Idaho National Guard.  "They ask for continued privacy as they concentrate on their son's reintegration.

Bergdahl arrived at SAMMC about 2:30 this morning where he will begin being treated by psychiatrists, doctors, and other medical personnel who are skilled in helping Americans who have been subjected to trauma overseas.

Bergdahl will also be debriefed by military intelligence about the Taliban fighters who held him prisoner for 5 1/2 years in Afghanistan, and by military prosecutors who want to find out how he became a prisoner to begin with.

Bergdahl will undergo a process that the Army says 'could take weeks and could take years,' with mental, emotional, and physical treatment to help him cope with the trauma of being held prisoner by the Taliban.
