City, Police Begin Concessions Talks

City of San Antonio negotiators today asked the San Antonio Police Officers Association to give up their zero-cost health benefits, and accept the same health care plan which is now provided to city civilian workers, which would require officers to pay monthly premiums and co-pays, 1200 WOAI news reports.

The two sides today held their second formal face to face negotiating session.

Representatives of the San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association w ere present at today's meeting, but the association has declined to negotiate over concessions.

City Manager Sheryl Sculley says unless changes are made in the contract, the health care costs will take up a larger and larger portion of the city budget in the coming years.

The SAPOA says it will offer an alternative proposal later this month.
