Deputy US Marshal Busted for Insurance Fraud

Deputy U.S. Marshal Reynaldo Gonzalez, who works in San Antonio, is accused of faking an injury, forging his doctor's signature and then submitting false claims to his insurance company.

According to investigators, the American Family Life Assurance Company, which is known as AFLAC, then sent several benefit checks to Gonzales, who was arrested today.

"Gonzalez stated to federal agents that the claims legitimately reflected his injuries and resulting examination by the physician," a statement, released today, reads. "However, the physician had not treated Gonzalez since 2007, according to the allegations.”

Gonzales, 37, faces six charges of wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and six counts of making false statements to federal agents.  If found guilty on all counts, he could spend as many as 22 years in federal prison.
