A homeowner opened fire on three men he saw burglarizing his home this afternoon on the city's far west side, 1200 WOAI's Michael Board reports from the scene.
Police say the man returned to his home on River Villiage, which is near Ellison and Potranco, to find the burglars had actually pulled their car into his garage and were unloading his possessions into their car.
Investigators say the man discovered this happening when he returned from work about 2 PM today.
The man grabbed a weapon and unloaded on the three men, according to police.
"Suspects drove their car through the garage door when the homeowner fired into the car, hitting two of the suspects," Sgt. James Cline tells 1200 WOAI news.
One was shot in the back and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The other man was shot in the shoulder and is not so seriously hurt. The third burglar tried to run away, but was captured.
Police are still investigating, but say they do not expect that the homeowner will face charges.
