A man is facing multiple charges after police say he stole a car from Montana Street on the east side, with a two year old child strapped in a car seat in the back, 1200 WOAI news reports.
“The woman stopped at a friend’s home and left the vehicle running,” Police Officer Roger Zuniga said. “When she walked up to the home, the friend pointed out that her car was driving away.”
The woman called police, who spotted the vehicle near Rigsby and W.W. White.
“An officer pulled into the parking lot to try to stop the vehicle, but the suspect rammed the patrol vehicle, backed up and went around the patrol vehicle again, trying to get away.”
But Zuniga says when officers arrived, the child was not in the car.
But on Smallwood Street, about six blocks away, a woman found the two year old wandering in the street in front of her home.
“The child was unharmed, and stayed with the child until police got there.”
The suspect will be charged with car theft, endangering a child, criminal mischief, and felony evading.
